Nobody Puts Baby Chick in the Trash!

While out walking my dog this morning, I saw a box on the curb in my neighbor’s trash pile.    Of course I had to peek in there.    Imagine my surprise when I found this canister in perfect condition!

The momma chick is happily sitting on her eggs while one baby chick has hatched on the lid.     Love the detail on this piece especially the “chicken wire”.   The bottom of the canister is marked Sears Roebuck & Co.; 1978; Japan.   The colors are vibrant and oh so 70’s. 

Most of the other items in the box were unsalvageable junk (not the good kind of junk) but I did manage to rescue this wall cross which will probably be given a distressed white shabby chic look.

Bloom Where You Are Planted

Finally!  After a slow start this year, blooms have appeared in my yard.   One of my all time favorites is the hibiscus plant.

Last but certainly not least, a bloom on the bottle brush tree.

Old Blue Eyes

At a recent estate sale, I purchased an old 3 drawer chest for $20.   When I got it home, the chest took on a new personality and began creeping me out by staring me down with its big blue eyes!   Since the sinister look is not my decorating style, I went for a slightly distressed casual coastal feel.

I had the paint supplies and décor on hand so all this cost me was the $20 I paid for the chest which is now functioning as my night stand.

Oh and just in case you were wondering, here is a picture of Old Blue Eyes giving me one last look before the re-do.

Birdseed Buffet

As I recover from back surgery, I often find myself on the sun porch watching the playful antics of the birds and squirrels in the yard.   We feed the birds year round and I was delighted to see this group peacefully dining together at our birdseed buffet.

Our first guest attending the all you can eat buffet was this incredibly beautiful indigo bunting.

News of the buffet quickly spread and the bunting was soon joined by a sparrow.

And then another.

When the cardinal flew in, he totally disrupted the tranquility and harmony of the group.   He looks as if he is saying “Excuse me!   Can’t you see I am eating here?   Would you please not take my picture while my mouth is full?”

I wish it was as easy to feed my hungry bunch as it is to feed the birds!
