Hodgepodge

Tonight’s post is a hodgepodge of pictures I took over the last few days.

A neighbor who I don’t know very well invited me over to see her chicken coop  Le Poulet Maison.  The coop was a rusty old shed in its former life.    The “window” on the side is mirrored and reflects her lovely back yard.

Chicken Coop

Love her use of branches as a border around the tree.

Yard

Back at the house, this red headed fellow was making a lot of noise.

In contrast, this little fellow was quiet as a mouse as he perched upon a freshly painted rocking chair.   I was beginning to think he was stuck in the paint but he flew away after I took one picture.

Dragonfly

A couple of pelicans were hanging out on the concrete under the bridge.  The one on the right is showing off her new pedicure.

Meanwhile the heron thought he was clever by hiding in the tree but he didn’t fool me.

Off he went when he got tired of me taking so many pictures.   He clearly does not like the paparazzi stalking him.

My favorite picture of the week is this one of reflections on the river.

River Reflections

The water was so still I had a difficult time distinguishing reality from reflection.

Thanks for visiting today!

Nobody Puts Baby Chick in the Trash!

While out walking my dog this morning, I saw a box on the curb in my neighbor’s trash pile.    Of course I had to peek in there.    Imagine my surprise when I found this canister in perfect condition!

The momma chick is happily sitting on her eggs while one baby chick has hatched on the lid.     Love the detail on this piece especially the “chicken wire”.   The bottom of the canister is marked Sears Roebuck & Co.; 1978; Japan.   The colors are vibrant and oh so 70’s.

Most of the other items in the box were unsalvageable junk (not the good kind of junk) but I did manage to rescue this wall cross which will probably be given a distressed white shabby chic look.

Thank you for visiting with me!   I always love to have you here and hope you will return again.

Bloom Where You Are Planted

Finally!  After a slow start this year, blooms have appeared in my yard.   One of my all time favorites is the hibiscus plant.

Last but certainly not least, a bloom on the bottle brush tree.

Old Blue Eyes

At a recent estate sale, I purchased an old 3 drawer chest for $20.   When I got it home, the chest took on a new personality and began creeping me out by staring me down with its big blue eyes!   Since the sinister look is not my decorating style, I went for a slightly distressed casual coastal feel.

I had the paint supplies and décor on hand so all this cost me was the $20 I paid for the chest which is now functioning as my night stand.

Oh and just in case you were wondering, here is a picture of Old Blue Eyes giving me one last look before the re-do.

Thank you so much for visiting today!

Birdseed Buffet

As I recover from back surgery, I often find myself on the sun porch watching the playful antics of the birds and squirrels in the yard.   We feed the birds year round and I was delighted to see this group peacefully dining together at our birdseed buffet.

IndigoBunting2

Our first guest attending the all you can eat buffet was this incredibly beautiful indigo bunting.

News of the buffet quickly spread and the bunting was soon joined by a sparrow.

And then another.

When the cardinal flew in, he totally disrupted the tranquility and harmony of the group.   He looks as if he is saying “Excuse me!   Can’t you see I am eating here?   Would you please not take my picture while my mouth is full?”

I wish it was as easy to feed my hungry bunch as it is to feed the birds!

Thanks for visiting and please feed the birds!
