Take Time to Smell the Roses

Valentine’s Day has come and passed and I received a special present that will keep on giving if I can keep it alive.     Instead of a dozen roses, I asked for a knock out rose and the hubby delivered!     He not only purchased it, he also planted this lovely cherry colored double knock out rose.

That’s not the only gift I received.   He surprised me with blueberry bushes!    Luckily for me he planted those also.

This species of blueberries is called Rabbit Eye.  It is supposed to be tolerant of the heat and drought of the South, and has few pest problems.

If any of you gardeners out there have any tips for growing knock out roses or blueberries, I would love to hear them.

Thanks for visiting and please take time to smell the roses and eat the blueberries!     I am linking to Outdoor Wednesday @ A Southern Daydreamer.

Knock out roses are my favorite roses...just deadhead them once in a while and they just keep on blooming. Mine are so large now that I have to cut the way back in the spring so they don't get too huge! What a great problem to have right. I love blueberries but have never grown them. Such great plants you received!

knock outs and blueberries are both easy easy forgiving plants. With blueberries, it takes about 3 years to get a really sizable harvest, but you will get some even the first few years --like 5 or 6 berries per bush a day during the harvest time. I either just use them in yogurt, or I will plop them in a freezer bag until I have accumulated enough for whatever else I might want to do. Here in the Memphis area, I try to go out first thing in the morning to harvest -- if I wait much past 9:00 the birds and squirrels will get every single ripe berry.

Blueberry bushes are very decorative also. The leaves turn a very nice red in the fall.

They love Epsom salts.1/2 cup per plant will make them grow large.

A hubby that listens to his wife...what a concept! You'll love the Knock-Out. Very simple to maintain rose that seems to just bloom forever.
