Memories Of Mom

My mom passed away ten years ago this month.    It is hard to believe that so much time has passed since her sweet soul left this earth for eternal life in heaven.    Needless to say she has been on my mind recently so I decided to celebrate her life with a few of her belongings that are very special to me and evoke precious memories.

This teapot was a fixture in her kitchen where it sat proudly on a shelf.   I don’t recall it ever actually being used, but it was always there and I am so happy to have it now.

These pitchers also sat on a shelf in mom’s kitchen for as long as I can remember.    I have always loved the little crowing roosters on the red rooftops.    Every time I look at these I get a craving for made from scratch pancakes topped with warm syrup and melted butter.    I never got that at my house though because my mom didn’t cook pancakes.     We usually had cereal with bananas for breakfast.

One thing I do remember her cooking was lemon ice box pie with meringue on top and my oh my, it was delicious!     I can still see her juicing the lemons with this reamer which I believe is depression glass.     It probably belonged to her mom originally, but I don’t know for certain.    That pie was one of my favorites but I didn’t like the meringue so I would always scrape it off.

Thank you for taking this walk down Memory Lane with me.     I hope you have a blessed weekend and that you make sweet memories with those you love.   Who knows….they may end up writing about it one day.

I will be linking to these fabulous parties:

Hi! I just popped in from Romantic Home's Show and Tell Friday. Thanks for sharing your beautiful memories.
My mom has that very same teapot on her shelf. When we (me and six siblings) were growing up, she used to keep change in it.
Mom's 83rd birthday is Sunday- I don't know how old the teapot is!:)

Blessings,
Linda C

Nice post, I collect Brown Betty teapots and can tell you yours was probably made in Japan during the late 40's or 50's. I like the little raised flowers on that style and I encourage you to make a pot of tea and really enjoy it!
The lemon reamer is depression glass from the 30's and I have the same one that belonged to my aunt born in 1915. I use it often and find using items that once belonged to loved ones gives me a feeling of connectedness that is priceless.

Wow! I have a similar brown teapot and also the same "reamer"... I didn't that was the name for them. I just always called it a "juicer". But it is Depression Glass and nowadays they run about $25 in the antique stores in my area. I still use mine. It's actually sitting on my kitchen counter right now.
Love your blog. I'll be back.

We, too, had the same teapot at home, but never used it. Now my brother has it, and I can't figure out why he likes it so much! Do you think the daughter should have it? ;D ♥♫
