A Heron, A Dove and a Butterfly

I can’t believe I haven’t posted anything since July 4th.     Well, actually I can.    This has been a busy month for me and it has been too darn hot to go outside.

I spent the past weekend at our South Alabama home and looked out the back window to see this fellow loitering in the back yard.     The picture is deceiving because this blue heron is probably about 4 feet tall.

A cute little bird was nesting on our front porch.

I scared her, she scared me, and then she flew onto the porch railing where I was able to get a better look once I recovered from the trauma of a bird flying straight towards my head.      She is small and appears to be some variety of a dove but I don’t know for certain.    If anyone knows what type of dove she is, please leave a comment and let me know.

In closing, I want to share this photo I shot today at work with my phone.    This colorful butterfly flittering around in the lantana was almost as big as my hand.     You can click on the picture to get a closer view.

Such pretty pics. She looks like the mourning doves I've got in my garden. The butterfly is beautiful.
